impetus
In the first place, I’d like my thesis to be an extremely practical thing. By ‘practical thing’, I mean something that can be used in everyday life, or at least, converted into something practical. I’ve never been a designer and never thought as a designer before coming to school. I also thought I didn’t have artistic mind when I was in art school. Because of it, I could have opportunities to learn diverse fields and techniques. It comes the base I don’t want to say I was keeping change my majors for my life. I just want to say that I was just following interesting things. For last 12 years, my biggest hobby is photography, and I studied digital tools for advertising production, then I was interested in interactive things. Most of them are like finding new toys for myself. Some people settle the field where they will spend rest of time, but I couldn’t do it. I was just following new, looks-cool and interesting devices or fields, and then it pulls me DT. Design has totally different processes and principles form other fields I practiced in. Basically, design has target and reason. This could merges easily with what I have learned in previous fields. Making a useful thing that changes people’s lifestyle for the better is what I am looking for. It could be for common people, impaired people or a certain group.
Basically my design solution is looking for a best combination. Technology has been improved more than people had imagined. The gap between the digital world and the physical world has reduced with new sensory and projection technology. I think this improvement could lead to a new kind of human power or ability. To get new ability, I think how and which technologies are combined is important at this point. For example, computer vision is a technology that I like and want to be a part of. Computer vision looks very simple, it’s just a camera, but with only digitalized vision, yet it has changed our lifestyle a lot. It has become our extra eye and new ability. Its potential is still infinite.
